Overview
What is Candida?
“Candida” commonly is referring to the Candida albicans fungus, which is the most common yeast in the human gastrointestinal system. In normal days, as long as the candida is balanced with healthy bacteria, then Candida is in a controlled state and causes no health issues. It even helps digest food, increases nutrient absorption, and is part of the protective layer of bacteria and yeast in the body.

What caused Candida Overgrowth?
Unfortunately, sometimes conditions are ripe for Candida albicans to grow out of control – often when there is a decrease in beneficial microbes, such as:
-
taking a course of antibiotics
-
a poor diet
-
having chronic stress,
-
having chronic illness
-
taking medication such as oral contraceptive pills.
This is where the Candida secures the opportunity to reproduce rapidly, and it experiences little or no threat from friendly microbes or immune responses.

What Problems can Candida Overgrowth cause?
Candida overgrowth can cause a multitude of problems, including oral thrush, bad breath, vaginal yeast infections, nail fungus, jock itch, intestinal disorders (IBS), fatigue, foggy brain, and more.
Why Women tend to have Candida Overgrowth?
Due to the biological & hormonal difference, women have a higher risk to get Candida overgrowth comparing to men. This has been shown that around 75% of women develop vaginal candida infection in their lifetime. Besides that, women are also prone to have higher cases of having IBS related symptoms, a condition that may be caused by Candida overgrowth.
